Fashion Weeks are almost here. The sample of what is to come came from Copenhagen, where colour seemed to reign as the top note of the creative story that is to unfold.

What remains to be presented is a mystery to all except those who work in the industry. Those who work for trending companies and in all aspects of the design process are “in” on the experience. If we are to garner anything from what is available, we can expect a mix of the old and the new, much a continuation of what has been already but in a progressed form.

The 80s has held fascination. The material focus on the no-limits luxury world plus gradual economic optimism in the form of modest gains has spurred a similar environment that the 80s held. The tenuous growth teeters as luxury aims skyward, much as it did back then. That Copenhagen brought forth shapes reminiscent of the late 80s is no surprise, and as collections in last seasons veered towards encompassing more volume play and sharper creative flourishes with cuts and folds, fashion should seem like a replay of inspiration from that aspect.

The denim story and hippie festival vibe will not abate but will evolve into more polish as it joins a more vibrant and odd colour craze, mixing psychedelia with 90s sport rave and 50s rockabilly and the escape from innocence and protected youth becomes more prominent. Elements will meld with current youthful trends such as the now-revisiting coloured hair that was big in the 90s.

A cleaner technical approach will be made as tradition is blended with technical revamping and tweaking of old to make new. Technology has been along companion of fashion and will grow further as we grow more accepting of the future’s arrival. The future is looking more creative and optimism is possible. We may find a calming influence in how we ease into the future now that the panic is not as prominent. Energy will be easy.

I guess we’ll have to see in the coming weeks. But at least we’re excited and technology is making that possible.
